Don’t hike alone!
by Pastor Jason Taber, Pastor of Outreach
Sharing faith is something you will probably do mostly in your individual relationships, but that doesn’t mean you’re alone in it. Here is something you can try: Consider finding one or two other followers of Jesus who are on this journey, as well. It could be something you do while you’re with your small group, with a friend, or even as a family. When you get together, use this format to guide your conversation:
Each person speaks for two minutes about a spiritual conversation (or a significant conversation) they have recently been a part of, and addresses the following:
- What went well in the conversation?
- Where did you get stuck, or do you need some guidance?
- Was there a need expressed? It might not sound “spiritual”—it can be any need/desire.
The other(s) in the group take one minute to offer the speaker feedback, possibly answering questions like:
- Ask yourself: If I were saying, experiencing, or doing that, what might I be feeling?
- Does that underlying desire have a spiritual component?
- Does Jesus address it or speak about it?
- Does it deal with a big question like identity or purpose?
- Help the speaker think about what a Gospel-oriented response (a “bit of Good News”) might be.
Even if you don’t have a lot of spiritual conversations at first, you can still be a part of this—and those conversations will come as you continue looking for them. This will give you encouragement, as well as concrete support as you continue your journey!
