Cornerstone Fishers and CLC Military Ministry are hosting “Introduction to Basic Vehicle Maintenance, Service and Ownership Day” on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Fishers site back parking lot. The event is open to all disciples, and can be especially beneficial to teens. As part of the event, there will be six stations covering the following topics:
- Tire Care: Tire pressure checks, flat tire changes, how to safely jack up a vehicle, tread wear indicators (penny test), rubber weather checking, and tire wear (and what that wear can tell you about your vehicle’s mechanical health).
- Oil Maintenance: Guidelines on regular checking of engine oil levels, transmission and differential fluids; understanding when to schedule oil changes and the importance of vigilant adherence to those regular oil change intervals; and acknowledging the importance of oil filters and changing them when you change the oil.
- Brake Inspections: How to inspect brake fluids, brake pads/rotors, and recognize when service is necessary; what your brake pedal is telling you; and the use of a parking brake.
- Fluid Management/Other Misc Topics: Understanding coolant levels, how to change wiper blades, remove and replace lights, and how to locate and change fuses in your vehicle.
- Emergency Preparedness: Emphasizing essential tools and safety equipment, such as spare tires, jumper cables, and emergency kits (and what the contents should be).
- Financial Considerations: What is the 20/4/10 rule for car buying? When is it time to consider getting a new vehicles?
Registration is not required, and lunch will be provided.
