Matthew 28:16-18
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Lying Prostrate Before Jesus
That title describes most of the Biblical descriptions of worship—lying on the ground, prostrate before Jesus. This great commission to make disciples begins with, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me…”.
Picture for a few moments 11 men, lying prostrate at the feet of Jesus. In fact, try it for a few minutes sometime—lying on the ground, face down, hands outstretched. As you pray to Jesus in that position, there is no question who is in charge and who is not. That is the usual picture when the Sacred Scriptures say, “they worshipped Jesus.” (Enjoy a few other examples: Mt. 14:33; 17:6; 28:9, 16-17. Lk. 5:8; 24:50-52.) For three years, these Disciples had been living with and taught by the Creator of the Universe. This is staggering, overwhelming, mind boggling. Now go make disciples. This God, Jesus will live with and teach you.
This understanding of Jesus as God—all powerful, all present, all knowing and all loving—has changed everything for me. I enjoy life and sleep much better. Consider joining me?
Prayer: I still believe LORD JESUS, help my unbelief.
